reMarkable Paper Pro Screensaver Size: 1620 × 2160 px

The reMarkable Paper Pro screensaver and wallpaper size is 1620 × 2160 pixels. That is a 11.8-inch e-ink panel with a 1:1.33 aspect ratio at 229 ppi. Export at exactly those dimensions and the image fills the screen with no stretching, cropping or black bars.

The Paper Pro uses a Gallery 3 panel rather than the Kaleido filter found in colour Kindles and Kobos, so colour holds the full 229 ppi instead of dropping to half. It also gained a frontlight, which the reMarkable 2 never had.

Use the resizer below to crop any photo or artwork to those exact dimensions — it opens with the reMarkable Paper Pro already selected, runs entirely in your browser, and never uploads your image anywhere.

Easy to mix up: the reMarkable 2 uses 1404 × 1872 px, not 1620 × 2160 px. Sizing for the wrong one is the most common mistake with these two models.

Choosing an Image for the reMarkable Paper Pro

Getting the pixel dimensions right is only half of it. This panel has its own characteristics, and they change what kind of source image holds up on screen.

  • At 229 ppi this panel is sharp enough for most artwork but will soften very fine detail. Line weights below about a pixel and small type tend to break up, so scale detail slightly larger than you would for a 300 ppi screen.
  • The 1:1.33 ratio is close to a standard portrait photograph, so most vertical photos crop to fit with little loss. Landscape source images will lose a lot of their width — crop deliberately rather than letting the frame decide.
  • Gallery 3 keeps the full 229 ppi in colour rather than halving it, so coloured detail holds up far better here than on a Kaleido panel. The trade-off is refresh speed, which does not matter for a static screensaver. Colours still render more muted and matte than on a backlit display, so favour images with strong tonal separation as well as strong colour.

How to Set a Custom Screensaver on the reMarkable Paper Pro

reMarkable shows a fixed suspended screen rather than a user-selectable one. Changing it means replacing the image file on the device itself, which requires connecting over SSH or using a third-party tool built for that purpose.

  1. 1

    Resize the image

Size the image to the reMarkable's exact screen resolution using the resizer above, then download it as a PNG.

  2. 2

Choose how to get onto the device

Either enable the developer SSH access shown in the device settings, or use a third-party reMarkable customization tool that handles the file transfer for you.

  3. 3

    Replace the suspended screen image

Back up the existing suspended screen file first, then replace it with your own image using the same filename.

  4. 4

    Restart the device

Reboot, then suspend the device to confirm the new image appears.

Note: This is not an officially supported customization. Firmware updates can overwrite the replaced file, and modifying system files carries some risk — back up the original first.

reMarkable Paper Pro Screensaver FAQ

What size should a reMarkable Paper Pro screensaver be?
A reMarkable Paper Pro screensaver should be 1620 x 2160 pixels — the device's exact panel resolution. That is a 11.8-inch screen with a 1:1.33 aspect ratio at 229 ppi. Matching these dimensions means the image fills the screen with no stretching, cropping or black bars.
What format should the image be in?
PNG or JPG both work on the reMarkable Paper Pro. PNG keeps sharp edges cleaner on text and line art. This is a colour e-ink screen, so colour images do display — but they render more muted and matte than on a backlit phone, so images that are already high in contrast and saturation hold up best.
Does the reMarkable Paper Pro support custom screensavers?
reMarkable shows a fixed suspended screen rather than a user-selectable one. Changing it means replacing the image file on the device itself, which requires connecting over SSH or using a third-party tool built for that purpose.
Can I use the same image on other e-readers?
Not without re-cropping. The reMarkable Paper Pro is the only supported device using a 1620 x 2160 panel, so an image sized for it will be cropped or letterboxed on any other model. Re-export at the target device's own resolution instead.
