Choosing an Image for the Kindle Scribe
Getting the pixel dimensions right is only half of it. This panel has its own characteristics, and they change what kind of source image holds up on screen.
- At 300 ppi this panel resolves fine detail well. Thin linework, small lettering and subtle tonal gradients all survive, so detailed illustration and photography both work.
- The 1:1.33 ratio is close to a standard portrait photograph, so most vertical photos crop to fit with little loss. Landscape source images will lose a lot of their width — crop deliberately rather than letting the frame decide.
- E-ink is greyscale, so colour contrast disappears on screen. Check that your image still separates into clear light and dark areas once colour is removed — two colours of similar brightness will merge into one flat tone.

How to Set a Custom Screensaver on the Kindle Scribe
Kindle has no official custom screensaver setting. The standard non-jailbreak workaround is to turn your image into an EPUB whose cover is that image, send it to the device, and let the lock screen show the current book's cover. The cover setting is hidden entirely on ad-supported Kindles, so ads have to be removed from the device first.

Turn on the cover setting
On the Kindle, open Settings > Device Options and enable the setting that shows the current book's cover on the lock screen. Depending on firmware it is labelled Show Cover or Display Cover, and it does not appear at all on ad-supported devices.

Open the book and sleep the device
Sync, open the new EPUB so it becomes the current book, then put the Kindle to sleep. The lock screen shows your image.
Note: This is a community workaround, not a supported feature. On Kindles sold with Special Offers the cover setting is hidden until ads are removed from the device, and the lock screen always follows whichever book you last opened — there is no folder of wallpapers and no rotation.
